What is the "Church"?
What is the “Church”? Right away, most of us imagine a building made by human hands. To be Biblically precise, the structures we envision are merely houses where we, God’s people, gather. We as individuals are the church. Think about it…no where in scripture is it mentioned that Jesus worshipped in a church building. Yes, he attended the Jewish synagogue or temple, but he and the early Christians met outside, in the upper room, or in homes. Paul addresses his letters to the “churches” at Corinth, Rome and Thessalonica. I don’t think he was talking to a pile of bricks. Christ reminds us that He is the cornerstone, and we are the living stones that comprise HIS CHURCH. “And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple.” 1 Peter 2:5. We are built of indestructible material, don’t forget that.
