Safe Haven

“Does the eagle soar at your command and build his nest on high? He dwells on a cliff and stays there at night; a rocky crag is his stronghold.” Job 27-28.  North of St. Louis, beginning around Alton, along the Mississippi river you can see these magnificent cliffs.  In the winter months they are a safe haven for the American Bald Eagle.  I’m not sure why God had them hole up in this inhospitable looking place, but there they will gather come November. Most of  us would choose a condo in a warm climate, and there is the difference - eagles don’t get a choice, they just intuitively know where they should be. Sometimes I think it would be pretty cool to have that built-in homing device, and not have the problem of too many choices.  While God may not hand us the keys to a hotel room, his word certainly helps narrow down our choices and He, like Motel 6, always leaves the light on!!
